The NZX-50 closed up 0.7% at 3239.5 as markets were buoyed by offshore leads, said First NZ Capital. Methven finished 6.7% higher at NZ$1.11 after 1H net profit, although down 25% on year at NZ$3.2 million, was better than the market expected. Pumpkin Patch fell 6.3% at NZ$0.60, after the company released a downbeat outlook even as it retained guidance. In Australia the S&P/ASX200 ended higher Tuesday, up 43.9 points (1.1%) to close at 4102.1. There were approximately 2bn shares traded for a value of A$4.1bn. Advancers outnumbered decliners 552 to 438. Paladin Energy rose 6.9% and Fairfax Media finished 6.5% higher. Boart Longyear increased 5.4%. APN News & Media dropped 3.9%. Murchison Metals fell 3.6% and Mount Gibson Iron declined 3.2%.  U.S. stocks moved higher Tuesday, extending gains from the previous day's rally, as investors remain hopeful that leaders are making progress on addressing the eurozone debt crisis. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 94 points, or 0.8%, the S&P 500 added 9 points, or 0.8%, and the Nasdaq composite gained 1 point. The day's increase put the Dow back in positive territory for the year, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq remain in the red. : European stocks advanced for a third day as euro-area finance ministers met to discuss insuring a portion of bonds issued by debt-stricken countries and U.S. consumer confidence unexpectedly rose in November. The Stoxx Europe 600 Index gained 0.8 percent to 231.68 at the close. National benchmark indexes rose in 14 of the 18 western- European ...
